Master of Orion 2 mod for Stellar Frontier
This is a standalone package that runs on the old Stellar Frontier version 1.1a, which is included. Simply extract the zip file and start playing. Don't forget to read the Readme file.

Using Beam Weapons:
Since Stellar Frontier is abandonware, there's literally no way to get a "Stellar Aces"/"Admiral's Club" code any more. That's the code you need to buy in order to use lasers and since they're an important part of the MOO2 mod, I'll just give you my laser code. Please use code 001363 Xhhl1wcKw4 to activate lasers for your game. This may make it so that two players with the same code will show up as duplicates in the game and produce a warning but it won't stop you from playing.
Playing online:
NOTE: This was designed for play over direct IP connection or against the computer but since I discovered the new nexus, it also works online. To play an online game, click above the top option on the main screen. There are four buttons visible and one hidden button above the "Connect to IP" button. You will hear a click when moving the mouse over it. Click there to start playing online. If the nexus name is sf.stardock.net, change it to 81.86.120.132
Feel free to start an online server of the game if you want to be part of the score leaderboard and one isn't up.
Original Stellar Frontier
If you're curious and want to try the original game of Stellar Frontier, you can download the latest version below. I've tweaked the game with a hex editor so that it connects to the new nexus instead of the old one just as I did with the MOO2 version. This will install versions 1.2rc5, 1.2rc6 and 1.2rc7. Depending on what version a server is running, you can change versions by launching the appropriate executable.

dosBox.zip (2.4Mb)
This is a version of Dosbox set up to be installed into your MOO2 directory. This is a directory named "dosbox" zipped, so make sure that when you unzip it that all the files are in this directory. Simply unzip into your MOO2 directory (the one with orion2.exe in it) and then use dosbox/DOSBox.exe to start it. This runs the dos version and uses IPX tunelling over TCP/IP to play network games.
SETUP: Open dosbox/dosbox.conf in notepad and scroll to the bottom. You'll see:
[autoexec]
# - Change the line below to the directory that your MOO2 folder is in:
mount m c:\games\
m:
# - Change the line below to the name of your moo2 directory.
cd moo2d
# - If you want to start a multiplayer server
# - remove the hash from the next line (ipxnet startserver)
# ipxnet startserver
# - If someone else is starting the server
# - put their IP below
ipxnet connect 192.168.1.1
orion2~1
Edit the path second line to be the directory in which your MOO2 folder resides. For example, my MOO2 directory is c:\games\moo2d . Then edit the folder name in the fifth line to be the same as your moo2 directory. For example, if your moo2 directory is c:\moo2 or c:\games\moo2 then change it from "moo2d" to "moo2". If you've copied the MOO2 CD to a directory on your hard drive, make sure that this folder is also within the path in the mount command. For example, I have the MOO2 CD in c:\games\moo2cd and installed it from there to c:\games\moo2d . If my MOO2 CD directory were in c:\moo2cd , the mounted drive m wouldn't have access to it and my game wouldn't run.
Multiplayer:
In order to play a network game, you'll need both players to use dosbox. Open dosbox/dosbox.conf in notepad and scroll to the very bottom again. The person that is NOT hosting the game needs to edit the second last line "ipxnet connect " to have the IP of the person that is starting the server. The player that IS hosting the game will have to put a hash sign in front of the second last line and remove the hash sign from the line with the startserver command. The server's file would looke like this:
# - If you want to start a multiplayer server
# - remove the hash from the next line (ipxnet startserver)
ipxnet startserver
# - If someone else is starting the server
# - put their IP below
# ipxnet connect 192.168.1.1
orion2~1
And that's it. Have the server start their game first, then the other players start theirs. Once in-game, start a game over "IPX" to play. This system can't handle packet loss very well and will pretty much die over wireless networks.
The file "Master Of Orion 2.exe" is just a copy of DOSBox.exe that I made so that you can easily add the game to Steam as a non-steam game. Adding this executable instead of DOSBox.exe will make the game appear as "Master of Orion 2" in your steam list. Then you can change the icon to use the icon from orion95.exe in your moo2 root directory :D.
